Quinton (Rampage) Jackson defends his UFC light-heavyweight title against Ultimate Fighter winner Forrest Griffin.

Hey everybody, as always I'm your host Neil Springer and welcome to the UFC 86 Blow by Blow.

This isn't the most stellar show in terms of star power -- aside from Jackson and Griffin, of course. Though the undercard looks competitive, the co-main events feel one-sided. But hey, I've been wrong before.

Onto the fights!

Tyson Griffin vs. Marcus (Maximus) Aurelio

Round one

Aurelio takes octagon control and tries a two-punch combo. The crowd is getting annoyed already. Griffin fakes a takedown, but eats a jab for his trouble. Griffin knocks him down and starts working the ground-and-pound, but Aurelio is trying catch an armbar.

Aurelio is now riding a high-guard and Griffin better watch the triangle. Griffin escapes and lands a couple shots.

They stand back up. Griffin is starting to land some hard punches and there's a mouse below Aurelio's eye. They clinch on the fence and the round expires. Good first round for Griffin.

Round two

Griffin comes right at him and is firing off some hard legkicks. He's starting to look nice and loose with his stand-up now. Aurelio needs to get this to the ground. He clinches, but that's not going to work against such a seasoned wrestler.

Griffin works some knees to the legs and foot stomps. They trade knees to the body and Griffin slams him!

Aurelio sweeps him, but Griffin starts getting up. Aurelio takes his back, but Griffin escapes and is in his guard. Aurelio almost gets a triangle choke, but can't secure it.

Griffin stacks him and starts kneeing the body. Time runs out. Another round for Griffin. Aurelio needs to finish him in the third if he hopes to win.

Round three

Griffin hits a nice legkick. Another one and follows it with a punch. Aurelio is tired and Griffin looks fresh. Sloppy shoot attempt from Aurelio. Griffin starts unloading on him. Aurelio avoids any serious damage, but he's getting picked apart.

The crowd is booing. Griffin takes him down, but gets caught in Aurelio's guard. Aurelio is trying to catch an armbar, but he can't hold on. The round is over. Griffin wins by unanimous decision. Hard fight for Aurelio. He constantly tried for submissions, but just couldn't catch Griffin.

I'm one for one in my predictions tonight.

Josh (Kos) Koscheck vs. Chris (Lights Out) Lytle

Round one

Lytle tries a highkick, but Koscheck steps away. He's trying to land a big right haymaker, but Koscheck wants nothing of it. Can't say I blame him.

Koscheck is looking patient. He slips, but is up quickly. He takes him down, but Lytle tries a guillotine choke. Koscheck is trying to escape half-guard and secure full-mount.

Lytle takes him back to full-guard, but eats some punches and elbows. Lytle tries a butterfly sweep, but can't get it. Time expires. Close round, but Koscheck takes it for control and ground strikes.

Round two

Nice legkick from Koscheck. He tries to take Lytle down. He hits some knees and elbows and then hits the takedown. Lytle tries another guillotine, but can't hold it. Koscheck lands some short elbows and has him stacked against the cage. Lytle is bleeding now.

Koscheck is all over him like Garfield on lasagna. This could get stopped soon. There's blood on the camera lense and Lytle is holding on for dear life.

This is nasty, there's blood all over the mat.

Round three

I'm surprised they let this continue. Lytle tries a kimura, Koscheck escapes. Lytle attempts a guillotine, but Koscheck spins out and is on top of him. Koscheck is elbowing the hell out of him and this should probably be stopped.

The ref stands them up and the audience goes crazy. Lytle explodes, but Koscheck clinches! The audience is chanting, "Lytle!" He's exhausted, bloody and smiling! They trade shots and the round expires!

Koscheck wins a unanimous decision, but Lytle is all heart. I'm one for two now.

Joe (Daddy) Stevenson vs. Gleison Tibau

Round one

Tibau is sporting a Mohawk tonight. Stevenson blasts him and goes for a guillotine choke, but Tibau pops out. They stand up and clinch on the fence.

Tibau gets a takedown, but can't keep him on his back. Stevenson charges in with punches and gets takedown. Tibau has an omoplata and this is a dangerous spot for Stevenson.

They stay glued to the fence with neither man improving their position. Stevenson has a bored look on his face. Tibau takes that round.

Round two

They clinch on the fence again. Tibau drags him down to the ground, but they stand up. Another takedown by Tibau and he has side-control. He switches to mount, but Stevenson escapes and they're back up.

Stevenson slaps on a guillotine choke and Tibau taps! Wow, that was slick. Well, I picked the winner and round, but not the method. I'm one for three.

Patrick (The Predator) Cote vs. Ricardo (Big Dog) Almeida

Round one

Almeida earns song of the night so far, coming out to CCR's "Fortunate Son."

Cote has a low stance to avoid any takedowns. Almeida jumps into a guillotine choke and drags him down. He attempts the rubber-guard, but Cote stands up.

Almeida tries a flying frontkick. He clinches Cote against the cage and fights for a takedown. He gets it, but is caught in half-guard. Almeida tries some strikes and is doing a good job of keeping Cote down.

Almeida is working some nice ground-and-pound. Good round for Almeida.

Round two

Cote needs to keep some distance to land his shots. He can't afford to let Almeida move in on him.

Almeida pulls guard and transitions to rubber-guard. Cote stands up and they're back on the fence. They separate and Cote is having trouble landing his shots.

Almeida gets a body-lock and presses him on the fence. He tries a guillotine, but Cote slips out. They stand up again and Cote knocks him down, but the round is over.

Round three

This is anybody's fight at this point. They clinch against the fence and Cote steps out. He lands a beautiful legkick. There's not much happening at the moment.

Cote is starting to take over on the stand-up exchanges. Almeida gets a takedown and has side-control. Now Cote's on top and the round ends! That was a close fight. You could almost call that a draw.

Cote takes it by split-decision! That was a close one. The crowd is booing the fight.

Quinton (Rampage) Jackson vs. Forrest Griffin

Round one

Nice legkick from Griffin. He hits a couple more. Jackson blasts him with a couple shots, but can't knock him down. Griffin lands more legkicks, but Jackson unloads.

Round two

Griffin blasts him with a legkick and Jackson is limping! Griffin takes him down and the crowd is going crazy! Griffin has side-control and attempts an americana. He takes the full-mount and Jackson is in trouble!

Time runs out and that could be a 10-8 round for Griffin.

Round three

Griffin tries a head kick. Jackson looks wobbly on that leg. Nice combination by Jackson. Rampage tags him again.

A nice body shot from Jackson and he's looking good now. They start swinging for the fences and the round expires! This is a hell of a fight.

Round four

Rampage hits a two-punch combo and then catches him with a hook! They start swinging again and Jackson takes him down! Griffin is cut. Griffin has a triangle choke, but Jackson slams his way out! They stand up and Jackson nails him!

Jackson lands some more nice combos. He tags him some more and the round ends. This is a hell of a fight.

Round five

Rampage lands a couple punches. Whoever takes this round will probably win the fight. They exchange shots, but no one has clear advantage. They continue to trade and the round expires!

I never thought I'd say these words: Forrest Griffin, UFC light-heavyweight champion. He takes a unanimous decision!
