A year after his devastating loss to Matt Serra, Georges St. Pierre looks to regain his welterweight championship at UFC 83 in Montreal.

Also on the card, Travis Lutter takes on former middleweight champion Rich Franklin.

BLOW BY BLOW

Hello everyone and thanks for joining me for UFC 83, Iím your host Neil Springer reporting to you live from the Bell Centre in Montreal.

It looks to be a huge audience and the atmosphere is electric!

Kuniyoshi Hironaka Vs. Jonathan (The Road Warrior) Goulet

Round one

They exchange a couple shots and Goulet takes ocatagon control. Hironaka tries a takedown, but they clinch on the cage. The ref restarts them and Goulet starts blasing him, Hironaka retreats.

Huge Goulet chants going on. Goulet starts working the lowkicks and reverses a takedown. He gets blasted and Hironaka works the ground-and-pound! The round expires!

Round two

Goulet tries a highkick, but Hironaka blocks. He keeps moving forward and drops him with a huge shot! Goulet moves in for the kill and it's over! Goulet knocks Hironaka out! Canadian fighters are one for one!

Brad Morris vs. Cain Velasquez

Round one

Morris tries a takedown, but gets dropped! Velasquez is on top and has a full-mount. He takes the back and lands some nasty shots. Morris swicthes, but Velasquez is all over him. They stand up, but Velasquez drops him again and it's over!

Rich (No Love) Clementi vs. Sam (Hands of Stone) Stout

Round one

Clementi receives a ton of boos on the way out and, well, I don't have to tell you that Stout got a huge ovation.

Stout takes octagon control and the crowd starts chanting his name. Clementi presses him on the fence and gets him down! He takes Stout's back and this isn't good. Clementi tries a rear-naked choke, but Stout escapes! Stout's not out of harm's way yet, though.

Clementi has a full-mount, but Stout stands up and the crowd erupts! They exchange for a bit, but Clementi takes him down again. He works a kimura, but can't get it! Clementi has a full-mount and the round expires!

Round two

They come out swinging and Clementi hits a spinning-backfist! They exchange some more and Clementi hits a nice knee. Clementi tries a single-leg, but can't get the takedown. Stout works in some bodykicks and gets a takedown. The round expires.

Round three

They start out throwing again, but Sam has to do something big here. Clementi takes him down again, but is caught in the guard.

They stand up again and Stout blasts him. Clementi shoots in again, but canít get the takedown. Thereís one minute left and Stout needs to do something. The round is over and Clementi wins a split-decision! Canada is one for two.

Ed (Short Fuse) Herman vs. Demian Maia

Round one

Maia tries a takedown, but Herman reverses. Maia presses him on the cage and slams him. He's caught in half-guard, but they stand up. Maia tries an omoplata, but Herman escapes and is on top. Herman passes to half-guard, but Maia brings him back. Maia tries a heel-hook, but instead uses it to sweep.

Maia takes full-mount and starts working the ground-and-pound! Herman reverses and they stand up! The round is over. Great back-and-forth match.

Round two

Maia shoots, but Herman reverses. They stand up, but Herman takes him down again. Herman tries some big punches, but is stuck in Maiaís guard. Maia tries a trianlge-choke and rolls on top! He blasts him with some punches, while keeping the triangle! The ref stops it and Herman is out! Very impressive win for Maia!

Jason Day vs. Alan (The Talent) Belcher

Round one

This is Day's UFC debut and he gets a huge reaction. Gotta love national pride.

They exchange a little before getting locked on the fence. Belcher gets him down and has side-control. Day catches him in the rubber-guard and starts throwing punches and elbows! Belcher gets back to full-guard and they stand up. Day stats blasting him on the feet and Belcher isn't really defending himself. The ref stops it! The crowd goes absolutely nuts! What a debut for Day!

Oh, and Canadian fighters are now two for three.

Joe (El Dirte) Doerksen vs. Jason (The Athelete) MacDonald

Round one

MacDonald and Doerksen each get strong reactions since they're both Canadian. MacDonald's was a lot louder, though.

MacDonald gets a guillotine choke, but Doerksen escapes! He gets it again, but Doerksen is out.

Doerksen has side-control and works for a kimura! MacDonald tries to roll out, but Doerksen holds on! MacDonald escapes the submission attempt, but is still in a bad spot. MacDonald reverses and now he's in Doerksen's guard. The round expires! Good ground match so far.

Round two

MacDonald presses him against the fence and sweeps him! MacDonald rains down with the elbows and itís over!

I guess that means Canadian fighters are three for five so far tonight.

Mark Bocek vs. Mac Danzig

Round one

They trade punches and Danzig starts taunting a little. Bocek gets a takedown and starts working some bodyshots from the guard. Danzig tries an omoplata, but Bocek spins out and throws some bombs! Danzig defends them and stands up. Bocek takes his back and brings him back down.

They stand up against the cage and now Danzig is on top. Time expires. Good first round for Bocek.

Round two

They touch gloves and Danzig blasts him with a huge knee! Bocek survives, but still has Danzig on top of him. Danzig takes his back and starts working in some punches. They stand up and Bocek tries a takedown, but Danzig lands on top. Time expires. They're tied one round a piece at this point.

Round three

Danzig hits a nice legkick, but Bocek lands another takedown. Danzig kicks him off and starts teeing off on him. He hits a huge knee and the ref stops the fight to check a cut on Bocek. It's a nasty one, but the fight continues!

Danzig moves in for the kill. He takes his back and gets the rear-naked choke! It's over! Canadian fighters are now three for six and I'm zero for one on my main card predictions.

Charles (Chainsaw) McCarthy vs. Michael (The Count) Bisping

Round one

My connection died part-way during the match. I had it all written up, but now it's lost. Damn Bell Centre wi-fi. Anyways, I'm back online and Bisping unloaded with a barage of knees and punches at the end of the first round. Time expired, but McCarthy couldn't continue. I'm now one for two in my predicitions.

Nate (Rock) Quarry vs. Kalib Starnes

Round one

Starnes gets the same warm welcome that all Canadian fighters have enjoyed so far tonight.

Quarry immediately takes octagon control and hits a couple legkicks. Quarry chases him down and they lock up on the fence. Man, Quarry hits hard, I can feel the shots from my seat. The crowd is booing the lack of action so far.

They tie up again, but nothing happens. They restart and then Quarry literally starts chasing him all the way around the octagon, throwing punches. I think they did more than a full lap. Quarry unloads and then the round expires! Wow, Kalib did nothing here.

Round two

Starnes tries a takedown, but canít get it. Quarry is literally picking him apart on his feet. He keeps landing some very nice legkicks.

The crowd is booing again. Quarry unloads and Starnes runs away. Iím beginning to see a pattern here. Starnes manages to sweep him, but Quarry is up before he can capitalize. He tries another takedown, but eats a knee. The audience is chanting ďboringĒ as the round expires.

Starnes needs to finish him next round because thereís no way heís winning this fight so far.

Round three

We get more of the same as Quarry tries to fight him, but Starnes keeps retreating. Quarry keeps landing and Starnes keeps running. This is just brutal.

Oh my God, Quarry just did the most hilarious impression of Starnes running away! Ouch, thatís got to hurt. The crowd is booing Starnes right out of the building and cheering Quarry! The round ends and Quarry takes the decision -- there was even a 30-24 score from one of the judges. Iím two for three now!

Travis (The Serial Killer) Lutter vs. Rich (Ace) Franklin

Round one

Man, the Canadian fans sure love Rich Franklin Ė itís deafening in here.

Franklin takes octagon control, but Lutter shoots and presses him against the fence. Lutter takes him down and has his back. Lutter spins into side-control and takes the full-mount. Heís back to side, but Franklin manages to trap him in his guard.

Lutter passes to full-mount and tries an armbar, but Franklin escapes! They stand back up and the crowd explodes! Lutter shoots, but Franklin sprawls. Lutter presses him on the fence again. The round expires.

Round two

Lutter misses a takedown and they stand up again. He tries another one, but fails. Franklin pounces on him, but almost gets caught in a heelhook. They stand up and Franklin starts blasting him! Lutter looks tired and Franklin lands some uppercuts and knees!

Lutter goes for the ankle again, but Franklin walks away. They stand up and Franklin is picking him apart! Franklin blasts him and the ref stops it! Franklin wins by TKO and Iím three for four tonight!

Matt (The Terror) Serra vs. Georges (Rush) St. Pierre

Round one

The arena absolutely explodes for GSP! I think Iíve lost my hearing. The audience boos the hell out of Serra. The atmosphere for this fight is insane!

Here we go! GSP takes him down right away! He starts punching from half-guard and slams Serra off the mat. GSP blasts him with some punches and re-enters his guard. He starts landing some elbows and passes to side-control! He has Serra's back! GSP starts nailing him with punches and they resart on the feet.

GSP takes him down again and unloads as the round expires! This is insane! I can barely type properly!

Round two

GSP takes him down again! He presses Serra against the fence and starts punching away. They restart on the feet. GSP tries a spinning back-kick and takes him down again!

GSP blasts him from the guard, mixing up knees and punches. GSP gets side-control and Serra turtles up. GSP unloads with a series of brutal knees to the body and itís over! The ref stops it! GSP wins the title! I can't hear myself think! I end the night at four our of five in my predictions!
