WWE needs beast, not beauty

There are strong rumblings that Kia Stevens is WWE bound.

Huh, Kia Stevens?

Probably doesn’t mean much to you.

But her ring name might ring a bell.

Kia Stevens is Amazing Kong, or Awesome Kong, a 5-foot-10-or-so, 250-plus-pounder who made a splash in TNA.

If used right, she could turn WWE’s Diva stable on its ears.

Right now, there’s a heavy emphasis on looks when it comes to the Divas.

Kong would be a welcome left turn to that.

If used right, she would give the Divas some much-needed oomph.

I’ve long said WWE blew it with The Big Show by not making him an unbeatable force of a monster.

The same would hold true with Kong, who would be renamed by WWE’s creative forces. She needs to leave a trail of injured bodies behind in her rise to the top. There should be no jobbing to anyone. There needs to be hype and there needs to be destruction.

She is a difference-maker. Let’s see if WWE gets it right this time.

Around the ring

Paul Orndorff, the 61-year-old who gained notoriety as Mr. Wonderful, revealed he has cancer ... Kofi Kingston is the new WWE intercontinental champ after beating Dolph Ziggler on Smackdown! ... Hulk Hogan’s mom, Ruth Bollea, died on Dec. 31. She was 88 ... CM Punk has taken over from Wade Barrett as the new leader of Nexus.
