Nick (Notorious) Newell knew he would turn heads upon entering mixed martial arts.

The talented lightweight was born without a hand and most of his forearm on his left side. Though it’s hard for MMA fans not to take notice of this, Newell has generated a lot of hype for his aggressive and technical fights inside the cage.

Holding an impressive 10-0 record, with seven submissions and two knockouts to his credit, Newell is among World Series of Fighting’s most promising prospects.

Newell admitted early in his career fans focused mostly on his missing hand, but now the spotlight has shifted to his well-rounded game.

“I feel like the more I win and the more impressively I fight, I become less of a fighter with one hand who happens to fight MMA and I become more of an MMA fighter who happens to have one hand,” Newell told QMI Agency during a recent phone interview. “I feel like I’m beginning to be known more for my skill than having one hand."
