Michael Chandler earned his second successful lightweight title defence, making quick work of David (The Caveman) Rickels in the main event of Bellator 97 in Albuquerque, N.M. Wednesday.

After dropping the gritty grinder with a sharp straight right, Chandler put Rickels to sleep with a violent flurry of punches for the 44-second victory.

“I used to be (a wrestler),” Chandler said of his much improved boxing skills. “Man, you've got to love wrestling, but I'm just blessed to be getting better every day.

“I train my butt off every day, why not lay it out there on the line?”

With Rickels behind him, Chandler will now face season seven lightweight-tournament winner Dave Jansen.

(Funky) Ben Askren notched his fourth title defence, smothering Andrey (Spartan) Koreshkov en route to a TKO victory in the co-main event.
