Edmonton promoter kick-starting lingerie mixed martial arts league

Whether it’s sexy or sexist, the creators of the Lingerie Fighting Championships make no bones about the fact the TV show is more about entertainment and less about athletics.

Edmonton’s Shaun Donnelly works on MMA productions and noticed a growing number of female fighters.

“There were two fairly attractive girls rolling around on the mat and I was thinking this is kind of exciting,” he said.

When the women started punching each other in the face, his excitement gave way to feelings of awfulness.

So he wanted to take the sexiness of ring girls with the thrill of fights — part real MMA, part WWE elements.

Part mockumentary, part reality series, part sports show, part soap opera, Lingerie Fighting Championships is set to air in April.
