In many ways, 2012 will be remembered for the stories outside the cage rather than the action inside it.
The past year saw entire events flipped on their head due to injuries, the creation of a UFC women’s division, the cancellation of UFC 151, two scrapped Strikeforce cards, injuries, Alistair Overeem’s failed pre-fight drug test, the death of Strikeforce, injuries, VADA becoming a household acronym and injuries. Oh, did I mention injuries?
But for every negative — or even bizarre — news story, there were a slew of great fights to keep fans entertained.

5. BENDO-EDGAR 1
Controversial to some, decisive to others (I fall into the latter), Benson (Smooth) Henderson dethroned lightweight champ Frankie (The Answer) Edgar via unanimous decision at UFC 144 in February.
Regardless of who fans felt deserved the nod, this was a hell of a fight that saw both men go full-bore for 25 thrilling minutes.
