Edmonton MMA fighter Mukai Maromo awarded Inside MMA's Rising Star Bazzie

EDMONTON - Mukai Maromo has, for some time, been a rising star in the local Maximum Fighting Championship scene.

But now, the world is beginning to take notice.

On Monday, the Edmonton-based fighter received the 2012 Rising Star Award by Inside MMA.

The television program recognized Maromo as the fighter with the most promise during its annual awards show.

“It’s very surreal, it’s an unbelievable feeling to be recognized like this,” said Maromo. “When I got into the sport, I was fighting in the lower leagues, in banquet halls and things like that and it was very lacklustre.

“To go from that to fighting on TV, on TSN and on television in the States and seeing myself on posters and getting an award like this, it’s an amazing opportunity. I’d never thought I’d be here. It’s very humbling, I’ve never thought I’d get this far, but at the same time, there is a long way yet to go.”
