Mark (The Machine) Hominick has decided to hang up his five-ounce gloves.

Following an 11-year MMA career that included victories over Yves Edwards, George Roop, Leonard Garcia and Yves Jabouin, Hominick has chosen to focus on his family and move on to the next chapter in his life.

The Thamesford, Ont., native said the only way to describe retirement is “bittersweet.”

“The transition is tough,” Hominick said over the phone. “There’s definitely been a few tough moments this week, just when you reflect on the career and how life’s about to change overnight. There have been some difficult times this week and it’s a tough decision. But I’m also looking forward to having this Christmas with my daughter ... and I have another daughter on the way in January. It’s the circle of life. I’m excited about the next phase."

After benching Brad Richards should the New York Rangers eventually just buy him out?
  Yes.
  Might be a good idea.
  No.
  Not sure.
