Mike Maurer's fighting opponents are a perfect 2-0 in the category of trash talk.

Following on the heels of Darren "Big Nasty" Apels - who promised to break Maurer's face in MFC 9 - Roger Hollett is spouting at the mouth in advance of Saturday's fight.

"I don't put on a helmet and call myself a football player, so I don't understand why Mike Maurer jumps in the ring and calls himself a mixed-martial artist," said Hollett from Halifax.

"I plan to either knock Mike Maurer out or submit him."

What is certain is that this fight will be Maurer's last during his Edmonton Eskimo career.

"It's pretty tough to do both," he said.

"I'm going to kind of retire. And I am 90% sure I'm done for good (after football).

"I have a lot of respect for what these guys go through - the intensity and the discipline it takes to prepare for a fight.

"It's so physically and mentally demanding.

"I'm just looking forward to hanging out with my kids and wife (in the off-season)."

But first comes the toughest test of his fighting career on Saturday at the Shaw Conference Centre.

Hollett is 3-0 in MMA with an impressive boxing background. His father - Ralph - is a former Canadian middleweight boxing champion.
