Who is the most overrated MMA fighter?
Thu, April 16, 2009

The sport of mixed martial arts is full of great athletes and competitors.

However, since the popularity of MMA continues to rise, some undeserving fighters are given opportunities that others could only dream about.

This could be because they had a successful career elsewhere, they're controversial, or -- worse yet -- were featured on reality TV.

Who is the most overrated MMA fighter?

Brock Lesnar overrated? Maybe. What is evident is that he has been given the easiest path to the heavyweight title without having to prove himself. What is clear is the man has the desire and flat out loves to fight. He doesn't have to worry about money and can afford to hire the best training partners that his wealth can afford. He will be a force in MMA so the overrated title is a little premature. I still believe Fedor would destroy Lesnar in short order.

I agree that Bisping is overrated. Dan Henderson is a big step up for him and we'll finally see what he's made of.

I think Mirko Cro Cop should be added to the list of overrated fighters. He had a great run in Japan but his last few fights (UFC) have been uninspired and didn't look too impressive.

Have to disagree with your assessment of Forest. He is one tough dude who keeps on surprising. I would love to see a rematch with Shogun. I think Forest fought him at time when he wasn't his best and I'd like to see both fighters at 100%. My guess is a healthy Rua would win.

Hey Dwain, not missing a pay per view in four years doesn't mean you know MMA. It just means your easily separated from your money.

I stopped reading your list after Forrest Griffin when it became clear you don't really know what you're writing about.

Forrest is no longer fighting Thiago Silva at UFC 101. The fight was scrapped and he is now fighting ANDERSON Silva.

Also when Forrest won the belt it made total sense for him to skyrocket in the rankings. He was the champ after all.

I have to agree with the list. While I would add some guys the top 5 seems about right. I'm guessing that most of you dont even know who Kimbo Slice is. Google him and you will see that he is just a street fighter that fights for gambling perposes. Brock has the belt not because of skill but because he is one monsterous guy. His muscle makes up for a lack of skill, while I believe that he will accually learn to be a true mma fighter for now he has to rely on his size. The same as Tim silvia did. . . by the way has anyone seen him fight in the last 2 years??? No I didn't think so. Bisping is a golden gloves boxer, is not too bad with his feet and getting better at the ground game he still should have lost to matt hammel. There is no dening that. NO RIOTS IF THE HOME GUY WINS. TUF SUCKS period. Its like watching honey wrestling. Its on fight late at night on fridays. Forrest while he is one of my favorites he got lucky. Hopefully we will see more of forrest in the near future. Any one that wants to contest what I have to say heed this. . . . I haven't missed a pay per view in 4 years.

All of them.

Brock just has a great phyical condition. He beat Randy coutoure who did not use dirty tactics likes he always does like accidently thumbing the eye and a close headbutt. No really Brock a overrated fighter. He's got no respect for his fellow fighters and has proven that. He won't be able to use Brute force agaist Frank Mir.

Frank Mir is going to put him away.

I do agree that forrest Griffen is a very good fighter. One of the best around and still the best Ultiumate fighter winner around. He keeps getting better and better.

As a huge Lesnar fan, it sucks to have to group him as overrated, which I feel is true simply because so many people have unrealistic expectations of him.

In all reality, I'd say he can hold his own with any HW, including Fedor. He may not WIN, but he'll certainly put up a fight.

He has arguably the single most efficient training camp on earth and one of the strongest work ethics to go along with it. Factor in his athletic ability and I don't think anyone's exaggerating when they say Brock is improving at one hell of a rate.

And that's what he needs to keep doing. "Nut-huggers" aside, Lesnar sometimes is overrated in certain areas (boxing, upperbody sub defense) and vastly underrated in others (clinch, ground game [see video of him spinning around on top of Mir], and cardio)

If he beats Mir, experience won't be what loses his future fights, it'll be a simple matter of being outclassed - just like any other fighter in the UFC. And that's what he is, another fighter. People tend to look at him like he's somehow something else, which he's not.

Firstly, how dare you put Brock Lesner on your "list"? He beat the best fighter the UFC has ever seen. Randy Couture. He is the new best fighter in UFC history. Enough said.

No it isn't!!! Forrest Griffin is NOT a bad fighter. I don't care what you say. You are wrong and you suck. You couldn't last a minute in the cage with him. Your puncy brain can't handle a list of 5 fighters, so how on earth do you think you'd ever beat Forrest? I bet you're not even as good looking as he is.
