The athlete of the year that almost nobody knows will almost certainly not win the Lou Marsh Trophy on Monday.

But who had a better year than Adonis Stevenson?

And you’re probably asking: Who is Adonis Stevenson?

In 2013, Stevenson won the linear light heavyweight championship of the world, the same title once owned by legends Archie Moore, Bob Foster and Michael Spinks. He fought four times in 12 months, was exceptional in winning all four bouts, an extraordinarily busy schedule for a high-end boxer (Floyd Mayweather fought twice in 2013; Manny Pacquiao fought once).

Since winning the title in June with a first-round stoppage against Chad Dawson, the Montrealer has defended it twice. But because it’s boxing, and because he works within that cocoon that is Quebec boxing, we don’t know him. His name is not household.
