QUEBEC CITY - WBC light-heavyweight champ Adonis "Superman" Stevenson of Montreal nearly came to blows with British challenger Tony Bellew Friday on the eve of their title bout.

Both men made the 175-pound limit in advance of their Saturday night fight in the provincial capital.

The bout will be broadcast on HBO and Sun Media partner Canal Indigo.

The official weigh-in got tense Friday as Stevenson (21-1, 19 KO) and Bellew (20-1-1, 12 KO) came face to face.

Stevenson pressed his forehead against Bellew's and pretended to give a head-butt.

Bellew responded with a punch that didn't land and a dozen people came in to prevent the fight from breaking out a day early.

Bellew then made reference to Stevenson's criminal past, which includes a prison stint in the 1990s for living off the avails of prostitution.

"The little pimp put his face on me, he butted me, I butted him back," Bellew told reporters. "Tomorrow (Saturday), I'm going to dispose of the little pimp."

By that point, Stevenson had been taken back to his hotel room and wasn't available for comment.

The 36-year-old Canadian is making his second consecutive title defence. He has knocked out his last nine opponents.

He won the WBC belt with a devastating knockout of American Chad Dawson last June in Montreal.
