The highly anticipated meeting between Quebec boxers Lucian Bute and Jean Pascal will finally happen.
InterBox, Bute's promoter, announced Friday that the 12-round light-heavyweight bout will go down May 25 at a venue to be determined. It could be the biggest fight in Canadian boxing history, never mind the province.
"This fight will mark a historic moment for boxing in Canada," Pascal's promoter Yvon Michel said. "Emotions will be high and the memories will be engraved in the collective memory forever."
Pascal (27-2-1 with 16 knockouts) is a former light-heavyweight champion while Bute (31-1-0, 24 KOs) held the super middleweight title. The two are considered huge stars in Quebec.
"This is the fight that everyone has been waiting for, even the casual fan," Interbox's Jean Bedard said. "It was an honour to help finalize it. All parties were anxious to reach an agreement and now boxing fans across the world can expect a spectacular show on May 25."
