MONTREAL - IBF super-middleweight champion Lucian Bute says American Super Six winner Andre Ward is dodging him.

The Montreal fighter made the comments a day after Ward beat Brit Carl Froch to win the tournament that was supposed to crown the world's top super-middleweight fighter.

Bute wasn't part of the tournament despite being one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the division.

He's signed by Showtime, the same network that organized the Super Six, and would be the logical man to face Ward. Both fighters are undefeated and in the prime of their careers, but Ward downplayed Bute's accomplishments.

"I don't want to disrespect Bute, but he sat back and waited while facing B and C level guys while I was fighting against tough Super Six guys," said Ward (25-0, 13KOs). "In my opinion, he needs to beat an A-level guy before fighting me. He doesn't deserve this chance."

Bute (30-0, 24 KOs) called out Ward for changing his tune after initially saying the two should go toe-to-toe.

"Before the Super Six final, he said that the winner should face me to officially determine the best boxer in the world of super-middleweights," Bute told QMI Agency.

"Then, suddenly, after his fight on Saturday, he does not want to fight against me.

"I beat the Super Six semifinalist (Glen Johnson) and I think it's gotten into his head. Before that fight, everyone wanted to fight me and now no one's talking."

Bute also put to rest any suggestions that he's reluctant to fight outside of Montreal, where most of his fights have been held.

"It's false to say that Lucian Bute only wants to fight in Montreal," he said. "I am ready to go to (Ward's home turf) in California, if necessary. Ward can never say he's the best super middleweight if he hasn't fought against me."
