Trupish team trolling for Trout

EDMONTON - Now that undefeated World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion Austin Trout (23-0, 13 KOs) has declared his intention to re-energize the division, Edmonton's Adam Trupish could find a spot on the champ's dance card Ñ sooner rather than later.

Trout, who won the vacant world title in a decision over Rigoberto Alvarez last February and beat David Lopez in his first defence three months ago, is set to fight No. 14-ranked Frank LaPorto of Australia on Nov. 11 in El Paso, Texas.

Assuming Trout retains the title, No. 15-ranked Trupish (9-0, 6 KOs) could be in line for a shot at the championship as early as the spring.

"There's been some talk, but it's all pretty tentative right now," said Trupish, who last month relinquished the Canadian Boxing Federation middleweight crown to campaign in the 154-pound division.

"My manager (John Mendonca) is looking at several different options and he's been talking to Trout's people. I just want to fight. Anyone, any place."

LaPorto, 33, who has only seven stoppages on his 17-4 record, should provide little more than a spirited workout for Trout, the 26-year-old New Mexico-based southpaw who burst onto the scene by winning the WBC Continental Americas title in 2009.

Trupish, 32, hasn't fought since March, when he captured the WBA's North American junior middleweight crown by blasting out Brazil's Rogerio Pereira in two rounds in Toronto.

Meanwhile, Red Deer's Arash Usmanee (15-0, 8 KOs) has climbed to No. 10 in the WBA's super featherweight rankings and could be on a collision course with champion Takashi Uchiyama (17-0) of Japan.

A double world title Ôsuper card' would be a great fit for Rexall Place in 2012.

Trupish vs. Trout and Usmanee vs. Uchiyama ... maybe with Edmonton's Tye Fields vs. Commonwealth champ Tyson Fury in a high-profile heavyweight shootout?

"I'll sign right now!" Trupish chuckled. "That would really put Edmonton on the world boxing map."
