LAS VEGAS -- Floyd Mayweather Jr. has announced a return to the ring and is scheduled to fight Victor Ortiz for the WBC welterweight title on September 17 at an undisclosed location.
Mayweather made the announcement via Twitter on Tuesday.
"My fans have been waiting long enough," Mayweather tweeted.
Mayweather is undefeated in 41 career bouts with 25 knockouts and last fought on May 1, 2010 against Shane Mosley. He has since encountered numerous legal issues, including felony counts on domestic abuse charges against the mother of his two children.
Ortiz is 29-2-2 with 22 knockouts and captured the WBC welterweight crown last April with a unanimous decision over Andre Berto.
