The six-bout Back to Business card at the Shaw Conference Centre on Jan. 24 will be headlined by Edmonton's Kris Andrews vs. Canadian welterweight champ Victor Puiu of Toronto for the World Boxing Association's newly minted NABA Canada junior middleweight crown.

In the co-main event, former Canadian cruiserweight champ Ryan Henney (11-6-1) of Saskatoon will square off with Winnipeg's Kareem Chartrand (7-5-1).

On the undercard, super heavyweights Adam Braidwood and Devon Garnan won't be the only mixed martial arts fighters stepping up. Braidwood and Garnan are making their pro debuts, but both have fought in MMA, where Braidwood is 1-0 and Garnan, from Calgary, is 2-1.

HEAVYWEIGHTS

Their four-rounder will be followed by Edmonton heavyweight Victor Valimaki (1-0 in boxing, 10-4 in MMA) vs. debuting Elston (Tiny) Brown.

In other prelims, promising welterweight prospect Steve Claggett of Calgary (2-0) will face an as yet unsigned opponent, while flashy Edmonton lightweight Ayana Pelletier (3-1) will square off with Monique Duval of Oakville, Ont.

Henney, who hasn't fought since losing his title to Sarnia's Frank White here last summer, is particularly pumped about fighting in Edmonton again.

"Losing that decision to White was just a glitch," Henney said from Saskatoon yesterday.

"I'm not using my (injured) shoulder as an excuse, but it was obvious I wasn't at my best. He won fair and square, but now he's backed out of a rematch. This upcoming fight is a chance for me to show the great fans in Edmonton that I'm back and ready to go with whoever (the promoters) put in front of me."

NEW DAD

After becoming a father for the first time in September, Henney said he's got a new lease on his boxing life.

"I had a lot of stuff going on outside the ring before I lost to White. Now that's all behind me ... and I've got a new son to fight for," he said.

"I want to keep busy and get back in title contention as quickly as possible."
