There's always a danger in a trip like this one.

How often does one get to the other side of the globe?

Different customs, different language, different culture -- China is a long ways away, in every conceivable way. That's going to add an extra challenge for Team Koe at the 2014 World Men's Curling Championship.

Around these parts, the rink of skip Kevin Koe, third Pat Simmons, second Carter Rycroft and lead Nolan Thiessen are known as Team Koe. In Beijing -- site of the men's world's -- they're Team Canada, and they'll almost certainly be walking around with the proverbial 'target on their backs.' So the boys are well aware they'll need their wits about them when they square off with Team Denmark (Rasmus Stjerne) in their first draw this moning (5 a.m., TSN) at Capital Indoor Stadium.

That's why Koe's rink, based out of Calgary's Glencoe Club, left for Beijing a few days early.
