So much for momentum.
Coming off a dramatic last-rock victory over Russia in the morning, Canadian skip Rachel Homan and her Ottawa Curling Club team had a chance to jump ahead of the pack Monday night at the world women's championship.
It wasn't to be, though. Inconsistency was the name of the game for Canada, which couldn't capitalize on promising starts to several ends en route to a 5-4 loss against American skip Erica Brown in 11 ends in Riga, Latvia.
Brown's simple takeout for one in the extra end (she had a biter at the back of the 12 foot) snapped Canada's three-game win streak. It also pushed the Americans -- and dropped the Canadians -- into a six-way tie for third place at 3-2.
Homan, who drew to the four foot with last rock in the 10th end to beat Russia's Anna Sidorova 5-4 in the morning, didn't have that same kind of touch in the North American duel.
