Team Canada skip Rachel Homan is looking forward to defending her title when the Scotties Tournament of Hearts gets out of the hack in Montreal, this weekend.
“It’s exciting,” Homan said in an interview with QMI Agency. “It’s an honour to have the Maple Leaf on your back.”
That’s not all the 24-year-old Ottawa skip will have on her back, beginning Saturday.
For the first time, Homan goes into the Scotties as the odds-on favourite, and she knows what that means.
Whether it’s a contender looking to gain an advantage in the standings or an also-ran simply looking for some short-lived notoriety, every other team relishes a chance to knock off the champ.
“I would assume there’s probably a bit of a target on their back,” Alberta skip Val Sweeting said. “They’re really good.”
It might be tempting to call Homan the overwhelming favourite to repeat.
