VIRDEN - Assiniboine Memorial veteran Janet Harvey has earned her way into at least a tie-breaker at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Harvey beat Fort Rouge's Joelle Brown 6-5 at the Tundra Oil and Gas Place on Friday evening to move into sole possession of first place in her pool at 5-1.

"We come into this thing hoping to play well and the ice conditions are always so good," Harvey said. "So, we expect to be in the hunt at the end. So, it's not a surprise for us. We're playing well. We're getting a little bit better with each game and we're in a position where we're close to a playoff spot."

They're close to a playoff berth because Assiniboine Memorial's Michelle Montford upended clubmate Barb Spencer, the No. 2 seed, 7-6. That dropped Spencer into a second-place tie with Montford at 4-2.

Montford drew to the button facing two with the hammer to eke out the victory.
