CurlManitoba has been awarded the 2013 Scotties Tournament of Hearts for the first time, it announced Friday afternoon.

“CurlManitoba is pleased to bring not only Manitoba’s but Canada’s best women’s curlers to Stonewall," CurlManitoba executive director Shane Ray said in a release. "As one of the seven original clubs that formed the Manitoba Curling Association, we are excited to bring the Scotties to Stonewall in what will be our 125th year as an organization. We are confident that Stonewall will continue the tradition of putting on a first-rate Championship that spectators and competitors will remember. This is a great event that will allow Stonewall to showcase their community and community spirit.”

The event will be held at the Veterans Memorial Sports Complex, Jan. 23-27.

The 2013 Scotties will be co-chaired by Nancy Drad and Carol Smith.

“Stonewall Curling Club is thrilled to be given the opportunity to host the 2013 provincial Scotties presented by Monsanto," Drad said. "With the support available from CurlManitoba, the 2012 Portage Scotties co-chairs and the 2011 Altona co-chairs, we are confident we can rise to the occasion and provide the curlers and spectators with a positive and memorable experience.”
