SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. -- Manitoba's Jill Thurston stopped the hottest team ice cold here this morning.

Thurston upended Ontario's Krista McCarville 10-5 in a Scotties Tournament of Hearts match at the Essar Centre.

Thurston improves to 5-3 and sole possession of fourth place.

"We had to win that game so, I think we got fired up before the game and we just played pretty good," Thurston said. "We have to control our own destiny and that was a big game for us to win so, we're happy with that.

"It gives us lots of confidence. They've (Ontario) been the frontrunners all week and they've played pretty well; we played a good game against them so, it's definitely good for our confidence."

McCarville drops to 6-2 and a share of first place with Team Canada's Jennifer Jones, who clocked Quebec's Eve Belisle 9-4 two sheets over.

Saskatchewan's Amber Holland kept her playoff hopes alive by upping her record to 4-4 by nipping B.C.'s Kelly Scott 5-4, which ties her fifth with B.C. and Quebec at 4-4.
