MORRIS -- All the talk here has been about Liza Park's Brandon team dedicating its season to Heather Mowat, its lead who is recovering from a vehicle accident.

Although Park has posted a winning record at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Tammy Mowat readily took on the pressure of playing lead in place of her older sister.

"I have a lot of mixed feelings," Tammy said yesterday. "I wish that Heather could be here instead of me. But I'm trying to play my best for her. I just want to make sure I'm here replacing her and filling her shoes and play as good as I possibly can so that she is proud of me."

But it is most satisfying that Park, who is 4-2, has been in contention here all week.

"Most definitely, yes," said Tammy, 29.

And should she win the Manitoba title?

"It would be overwhelming," she said softly. "It wouldn't just be for me, it would be for my sister as well."

The team talks to Heather before and after each game.

"And we have lots of encouraging words from her," Tammy said.

SHELL-SHOCKED: Fort Rouge's fourth-seeded Barb Spencer fell to 1-4 when her sister and clubmate, Darcy Robertson, edged her 7-5 in an extra end.

"I felt we would come out a little stronger than we did, but it was just not our week," a shaken Spencer said after the match. "I've thought about a few things (that went wrong), but I don't really want to share them."

Although Spencer needs arthroscopic surgery, she refused to blame the bad week on her knee.

"My knee's been fine," she said before upsetting St. Vital's top-seeded Jennifer Jones. "I don't want to blame it on my knee or anything like that. I don't think I'm playing bad out there."

HEARTS POLL: Hearts competitors here are being polled as to their opinion of how the provincial format should change, if they want change. Teams were also asked to appoint two volunteers to sit on a board to discuss such changes. No changes will be made until the MCA AGM, and MCA president Mitch Tarapasky said he does not expect changes that would be too dramatic.
