Glenn Howard keeps undefeated run intact at Brier

EDMONTON - Can history be repeating itself at Rexall Place?

Ontario’s Glenn Howard is sure making it look that way.

Howard was in the zone when he went undefeated in the 2007 world championship here.

The only difference now is Howard’s wearing an Ontario jacket instead of a Team Canada jacket.

The way Howard put down his two challengers Thursday gave the fans at this Tim Hortons Brier a sense of deja vu all over again.

Howard kept his undefeated streak intact in a hard-fought 6-5 win over Newfoundland’s Brad Gushue in the afternoon draw.

“I thought that was one hell of a curling game,” said Howard. “It was a fun game to play, I think a fun one to watch. We won by a couple of inches. Wow! What a game.”

When a team’s cruising, wins like that instill a playoff frame of mind.

Howard followed with a last-rock steal in a 4-2 win over Quebec’s Jean-Michel Menard. That, combined with a loss by Manitoba’s Jeff Stoughton, meant Howard clinched first place.
