EDMONTON - Starting off on the right foot is what itís all about on Day 1 of the Brier.

Some teams did, some didnít.

There were blowouts, close ones, extra-end decisions and potential upsets as the 2013 version of the Tim Hortons Brier kicked off.

Brad Gushue of Newfoundland stood alone with a 2-0 record after Day 1 and is well on his way to making up for his sub-par Brier in Saskatoon.

Gushue won the 2006 Olympic gold medal, yet continues to search for his first ultimate win at the Brier.

ďAfter my disappointing showing last year, I just want to come and erase that,Ē said Gushue, whose 5-6 record did not sit well. ďPlay well, play like Iím capable of playing. As a team, we played poor. Me personally, I played really poor. I was just the spits last year. All the Briers Iíve been to, with the exception of that one, Iíve played really well.Ē
