Two hundred and fourteen purple hearts!

No Brier in history has ever had a field with 214 years of combined championship experience involved before this one.

Eighty-eight purple hearts among the skips alone, including double figures for Glenn Howard (15), Kevin Martin (12), Jeff Stoughton (10), Brad Gushue (10) and James Grattan (10)!

Twenty-nine Brier championships!

Nineteen world championships!

And six Olympic gold medals!

No Brier field has ever been so decorated.

“It’s going to be epic,” said Alberta third John Morris of the Edmonton 2013 Tim Hortons Brier which begins Saturday at Rexall Place.

“There were a couple there which were pretty much just us and Ontario. You’d look at the teams and say, ‘We should be able to beat these teams.’ And there were quite a few of them.

“But this one ... it really is going to be epic.”
