How’s this for crazy?

Kevin Martin is from Edmonton and is about to play in his 12th Brier but he has to go talk to his lead Ben Hebert to ask what it’s like to play in an Edmonton Brier.

Hebert, in his first year out of junior, is the only member of the Alberta team to have played in the 2005 Brier at Rexall Place.

For Saskatchewan.

“Trouble is, I don’t remember half of it,” laughed Hebert.

“I was a 21-year-old kid at my first Brier and I had a great time.

“It was awesome. It was electric. To have that one as your first Brier was beyond anything you could dream. It was a great experience playing before 15,000 people. I’d never experienced anything like that before,” he said of the NHL full-season lockout year event which drew a never-to-be-broken record 281,985 fans to watch Edmonton’s Ferbey Four win their fourth Brier.

The next year wasn’t so shabby either.

It was in Regina.
