EDMONTON - When Brad Jacobs and his crew from the Soo went 9-2 at the London 2011 Brier, the moose calls were back and Morning Classes were mandatory again.
There are many wonderfully quirky aspects of the celebration of Canadiana at the Brier, but two of the most way out, wacky and weird ones involve the one non-province involved — Northern Ontario.
The moose calls you hear at the Brier are for the Moose Men from NOnt. And they are produced by drawing a piece of rope through a hole in a can.
Jacobs doesn’t pretend to know exactly what’s involved in the construction of one.
“From what I know I think it’s just a big soup or tomato can with a rope and you have to wet it or something, but I’m not 100% sure. People would have to ask our fans exactly how to get it right.
“We love the moose calls at the Brier. The more sickening they sound, the better.”
