Sandra Schmirler would no doubt have been proud. The foundation named in her honour pulled in its biggest one-day haul ever during Sunday’s fundraising telethon, collecting $390,000 from donors across Canada.

“It’s a huge success. Absolutely amazing,” said Francine Poisson of the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.

The organization has donated $1.6 million to neo-natal units across Canada since it was formed after Schmirler, who loved babies dearly, died of cancer in 2000 at age 36.

The foundation is set to give $50,000 later this week to the children’s hospital in London, the 2011 Brier’s host city.
