Like a good husband, Richard Hart listened to his wife and got rewarded with a new SUV Saturday.
The Ontario third won the annual Hot Shots skills competition, beating Alberta skip Kevin Martin in the final to earn a two-year lease on a 2011 Ford Edge. It’s the third straight win for Ontario after lead Craig Savill won in 2009 and skip Glenn Howard turned the trick last year.
“The pressure was on me this year,” Hart said, “but the guys talked me through it. I guess I can retire now that I’ve finally won one. I was talking with my wife (Margaret) last night and she joked that she needed a new car.”
All 48 players competed in the event, which involves performing several different shots.
“It’s a lot of fun, but we also find it really useful,” Hart said. “Any extra time on the ice is helpful and Glenn gets to see a lot of different shots. It’s a good way to start the week.”
