EDMONTON - Kevin Martin had barely settled into his rocking chair after he retired as a competitive curler when the phone rang.

On the other end of the line was a director of the Canadian Curling Association, who informed one of the best curlers of all time that he’s going to be inducted into the Canadian Curling Hall of Fame.

Martin will be officially inducted into the Hall at Niagara Falls in late August during the inaugural CCA Summit.

The lighting-quick induction even caught Martin off guard. “I was definitely surprised,” said Martin. “Holy smokes. The ink was not even dry from the announcement yet. It’s kind of a cool thing.”

Truth is, Martin was still in a curling frame of mind when the call came.

“I got the call a couple of weeks ago,” said Martin. “I hadn’t even unpacked my bags from the Players Championship.”

“It was so quick, I had a good laugh about it. I just asked him, ‘So, you’re making sure there’s no comeback?’
