In curling as in life, the best-laid plans often go awry.

John Morris had already sent out the press release announcing he’d be taking a year-long curling sabbatical.

And Carter Rycroft let the world know he was intending to do the same.

Instead, Morris will be skipping alongside Rycroft and the rest of the now-defunct Team Koe while wearing Team Canada colours at the 2015 Brier next March in Calgary.

So much for taking a break.

“I was totally planning on taking a step back,” said Morris, who lost heartbreaking finals at both the Brier and Olympic trials last season with Jim Cotter’s B.C.-based team. “It seemed like a good time to focus on some other things, and then I get the call from these guys, and it was pretty intriguing.”
