Nobody can take away what legendary curler Kevin Martin did on the ice.

Maybe someday, curling’s powers that be will recognize his off-ice role in taking the game to a different level.

For those in the local media who were not around to witness the historical transformation of the game during Martin’s lengthy career, Tuesday’s availability was an eye-opener.

Sure, he accomplished what few other skips could match. A dozen Alberta titles, four Brier titles, one world championship, three Olympic appearances that netted silver and gold medals.

The dramatic way he won the Players Championship on Sunday, finding a way to go out on top with his 18th Grand Slam title as a skip, a number of wins unlikely to be matched any time soon.
