One of curling’s worst-kept secrets was finally made official Tuesday, confirming a dramatic shakeup at the top of the Albertan curling hierarchy.

Reigning Brier champion Kevin Koe will leave his team in the summer to join forces with two former members of Kevin Martin’s team and a longtime member of Glenn Howard’s rink.

The move marks the end of an era in Alberta, where much of the last decade has seen Koe and Martin facing off for the right to represent their province at the Brier.

In former Team Martin members Ben Hebert and Marc Kennedy, Koe’s adding two Olympic gold-medallists and two-time Brier champions. Brett Laing, who’s making the move after 10 seasons playing second for Howard’s Ontario rink, has two Brier titles and two world championships on his resume.
