EDMONTON - If you’re going to jump to a different squad, it seems there’s not much downside with latching on with Team Canada.

A couple of days after Rachel Homan won the silver medal at the women’s world championship, Edmonton’s Joanne Courtney has stepped into the Ottawa team’s lineup.

Courtney will be taking over for second Alison Kreviatzuk, who’s moving to Sweden to be with her boyfriend Fredrik Lindberg, second rock for Niklas Edin.

Courtney threw third rocks for Alberta champion Val Sweeting, whose team lost the Scotties final to Homan.

The move caught the Sweeting team off-guard, who tweeted out: “Surprised and unfortunate to see her go but we wish Joanne the best of luck with Team Homan.”

Courtney informed the team of her decision late Monday night. She offered to play out her obligation and make one final appearance with the team at the $50,000 spiel in Grande Prairie starting Thursday, but that offer was declined.
