EDMONTON - Not sure why there’s so much consternation about Brier relegation.

Over the years, the Brier has been marketed for its unique element of being a province-against-province competition. Always been a great party, like Grey Cup week but twice as long.

While some may be mourning a diminishment of the tribal and flag-waving appeal of Canada’s highest-profile curling event, it seems curling’s sands are shifting.

Most World Curling Tour events and especially the Grand Slams, like the one that kicked off in Fort McMurray Wednesday night, have depth of field Briers can only dream of.

So, what’s wrong with having Kevin Koe back at the Calgary Brier in 2015 as Team Canada and another strong Alberta team that would likely be in the playoff mix?

Nobody would say it out loud, but it seems the players themselves are forcing a change.
