John Morris feels reborn with Cotter rink

There isn’t much time for John Morris to get comfortable with his new teammates.

With the Canadian Olympic pre-trials set to kick off in less than 42 days, Morris and the rest of Jim Cotter’s team have yet to make their competitive debut.

It’s not ideal, but it is by design.

“We’ve got some strides to make up,” said Morris, who left Kevin Martin’s team this spring after seven years as the third for the Edmonton skip.

“It was important for us, rather than just jumping in and playing a bunch of ’spiels and getting as many games as possible in, to make sure we were well-prepared and ready to rock for our first event.”

That event is this week’s Point Optical Curling Classic in Saskatoon, where pretty much all of Canada’s best will be competing for a $50,000 purse — including Morris’s old team.

“It’ll be tough to go through a whole season without playing them once,” Morris said.
