EDMONTON - John Morris took a leap into the inevitable.

The two-time world junior curling champion skip announced his departure from Kevin Martin’s rink Wednesday.

Morris and Martin teamed up prior to the 2006-07 season with front-enders Marc Kennedy and Ben Hebert.

Although there had been some initial skepticism that a pair of headstrong skips would be able to work together for long, the combination proved the skeptics wrong.

The rink won the 2008 world championship and the 2009 Brier, then followed with an Olympic gold medal at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

Prior to this year’s Alberta men’s championship in Leduc, Morris indicated he was committed to the team at least through this December’s Canadian Curling Trials in Winnipeg.

After missing the playoffs at the 2013 Edmonton Brier andfailing to qualify at the Players Championship last weekend, it seems the results were not to Morris’s liking.
