Canadian Curling Association wants to bring major event to Ottawa
By MIKE KOREEN, QMI Agency

Ottawa figures to be rocking and rolling at some point in the next few years.

The Senators and the Canadian Curling Association both have confirmed an interest in bringing a major curling event to Scotiabank Place.

Senators president Cyril Leeder said as much after giving a speech on sports tourism at City Hall this week.

When told of Leeder's comments, CCA chief executive officer Greg Stremlaw said Ottawa is in the mix.

"I can confirm that the CCA is looking at bringing a major event into Ottawa at some time in the future," Stremlaw said in an e-mail. "Scotiabank Place does have an interest in such and so we have held several discussions on the matter."

While western Canada tends to come out in bigger numbers, the CCA does like to take its showcase events to the east every few years.
