Ask those who should know who is the all-time best women’s skip in the world and you get five different answers.
The first names to roll off the tips of tongues are usually Saskatchewan’s Sandra Schmirler, Sweden’s Anette Norberg and Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones. Some say Sweden’s Elizabet Gustafson or Nova Scotia’s Colleen Jones.
In fact, Jeff Stoughton’s foursome picked three different skips during the recent Safeway Championship.
“That’s tough,” said lead Mark Nichols. “If you go by wins, Colleen’s up there.”
Colleen Jones won a record six Canadian crowns and two world titles.
“Jen Jones,” said second Reid Carruthers. “She has a resume second to none and and is very, very confident.”
Jennifer Jones won four Canadian crowns and one world championship.
