Alberta men's championship has strong field

EDMONTON - It’s hardly hold-the-presses news that Kevin Koe and Kevin Martin nabbed the top two seeds for next week’s Alberta men’s curling championship.

The compelling storylines this go-round are with No. 3 seed Jamie King and No. 4 seed Brendan Bottcher. Both Edmonton-area teams punched their tickets to Leduc through Alberta Tour byes.

Bottcher was busy winning the world junior and CIS titles in 2012 and should be a team to watch in his rookie appearance at the men’s level.

King’s crew has a couple of former world champions in its lineup — Blake MacDonald throwing skip rocks and Scott Pfeifer at third. Both back enders are in the mix after taking a sabbatical from the game for a couple of years.

In an unprecedented configuration, at least in Alberta men’s curling, King will call the game while throwing lead rocks.

Are you surprised Don Cherry backed Daniel Alfredsson's comments?
  Yes.
  No.
It's Don Cherry - who knows what he will say.
  Not sure.
