The Birchard family is having its way with the competition at the Manitoba junior men’s and junior women’s curling championships in Brandon, and now they are both one win away from making it a sibling sweep.
Daniel, 20, and his little sister Shannon, 18, were the only teams to finish with 7-0 round-robin records at Brandon Curling Club, and both won their 1-1 Page playoff games on Sunday night to advance directly to their respective finals.
Shannon Birchard, the defending junior women’s champ, edged Victoria’s Beth Peterson 4-3, while Daniel Birchard thumped the defending junior men’s champ, West Kildonan’s Kyle Doering, 7-2.
What a feat it would be if they can both win on Monday.
“It’s great that we’re both in the final,” said Shannon, who plays out of St. Vital. “It would be amazing if we’re both able to win it.”
Daniel, who plays at the Pembina club, was just as pumped about having a shot at winning alongside his sister.
