By Jim Bender, QMI Agency
Saskatchewan's Stefanie Lawton is coming to Winnipeg for the Olympic trials. Lawton clipped the Jennifer Jones Manitoba team skipped by Kaitlyn Lawes 6-4 to in the women's final of the Capital One Canada in Moose Jaw, Sask., on Sunday morning. Lawton earned a direct trip to the Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings, to be held at the MTS Centre next December. "It's huge to get an Olympic trials berth," Lawton told TSN. "It's something we've been working for for a long time." Lawton also won $24,000 and an invitation to the 2014 Continental Cup, to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Jones team, which already had an Olympic trials berth, pocketed $15,000. Lawton will join Jones and Alberta's Heather Nedohin at the trials in Winnipeg. The next three trials teams will be determined by Canadian Team Ranking System points. |
