MOOSE JAW, SASK. - In a short event such as the Canada Cup in Moose Jaw, Sask., this week, moving day is really moving night Thursday.

By now, Saskatoon’s Stefanie Lawton has almost certainly booked her way in to the weekend playoffs and looks good to earn a bye to Sunday’s final after a pair of wins Thursday.

Lawton ran her record to 4-0, picking up a 6-5 extra-end win over 2011 Canada Cup finalist Chelsea Carey.

Lawton followed that up with a 7-5 afternoon victory over Team Jennifer Jones skipped by Kaitlyn Lawes, sending the Winnipeg rink from the ranks of the undefeated and setting up the Saskatoon crew in great shape for the weekend.

The morning draw was key for both Lawton and Carey; the good news and the bad news.

“It was going back and forth, back and forth all the way,” she said about the shifts in momentum during the game. “It was a battle out there. They got the first two and we ended up getting the second one back, so we got the momentum shift back."
