WINNIPEG - A quarter of the field is perfect through two days of the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Morden’s Chelsea Carey is all alone in first place in the Red Group with a 4-0 mark. She beat Swan River’s Bev Lumax 11-3 on Thursday night. Meanwhile, in the Black Group, Fort Rouge’s Cathy Overton-Clapham and Kerri Einarson, along with Assiniboine Memorial’s Janet Harvey, are all 4-0 going into Friday’s action. Carey picked up her third straight win when she defeated Springfield’s Karen Rosser 7-4 in a battle of 2-0 squads. Carey, who is the third seed in the 16-team event, stole two in the sixth end to take control of the match. Overton-Clapham, the top seed, beat Snow Lake’s Kelly Wiwcharuk 10-5 in the morning and then cruised past Assiniboine-Memorial’s Brette Richards 8-3 in the afternoon. Einarson (nee Flett) beat Carberry’s Betty Buurma 9-4 and Brookdale’s Tina Kozak 9-3, while Harvey downed Richard 8-2 and Wiwcharuk 11-2. Fort Rouge’s Joelle Brown is at 3-1 after a 9-6 win over Carberry’s Betty Buurma. East St. Paul’s Kim Link and Springfield’s Karen Rosser are one game back of Carey in the Red Group with 3-1 records. Link beat Assiniboine Memorial’s Michelle Montford 6-4 on Thursday night, while Rosser handed defending champion Jill Thurston of the Granite her second loss, 7-6. Brandon’s Lisa Blixhavn, who lost 10-4 to Montford earlier on Thursday, improved to 2-2 in the late draw with an 8-7 win over LaSalle’s Deb McCreanor. |
