Rachel Homan of Ottawa has advanced to the Ontario Scotties after beating Cathy Auld of Mississauga 8-3 Sunday night in the B-side final at regional playdowns in Gananoque.

Last year’s Canadian junior champion, Homan and her rink of Emma Miskew, Alison Kreviazuk and Lisa Weagle entered regionals as the favourites, but an earlier loss to Lisa Farnell of Peterborough forced them to the B side of the draw.

Farnell went on to win the A side and also advances to provincials, starting Jan. 24 in Thornhill.

Gardner to Tankard

At the Cornwall men’s regional, Chris Gardner of Arnprior beat Shane Latimer of Ottawa 4-3 to capture the B side and advance to the Ontario Tankard. Greg Balsdon of Toronto won the A side and also moves on to provincials, starting Feb. 7 in Grimsby.
