It takes one to know one.
Former Canadian Olympians held an intimate question-and-answer session with fans yesterday in the O Canada Room at Rexall Place, where they were asked to predict who will be next to represent the country in Vancouver 2010.
Women picked men's teams and men picked the women's.
Kelley Law's 2002 Olympic bronze-medallists unanimously chose the Kevin Martin rink as their favourites this year.
"I'm going to have a soft spot for Kevin; I'd love to see him get back there and get his gold medal," said Diane Dezura.
"I think Martin obviously has a great team, lots of experience," added Law. "I think Stoughton maybe as a backup. Koe ... I mean they're all awesome. Howard, obviously. There's my four."
"The three of us sitting here, we kind of take our hats off to Kevin Martin because he was so good to us when we were in Salt Lake City," said Georgina Wheatcroft.
"We had a really great relationship with their team and formed a real bond, so our sentimental favourite is Kevin."
Glenys Bakker, who curled second on Shannon Kleibrink's 2006 Olympic bronze medallists, went with Howard as her top choice.
Howard didn't have the luxury of sharing his prediction.
"I have to be unbiased because I'm working for TSN this week. It's in my contract, that I can't be biased, so I like Richard Hart's team," Howard joked with the session's MC, which drew a chorus of laughter.
Former Martin lead Don Bartlett, who won Olympic silver with them in 2002, went with the Jennifer Jones rink.
"I think even though she lost her first game, I think Jennifer is the team to beat," he said. "She's got the most experience and I think she's got the best team."
