It was nearly another feather in the cap for Heather Rankin.

But the Calgary curler and her rink will have to settle for second after losing Monday's final of the $32,000 Boundary Ford Curling Classic in Lloydminster.

Rankin lost 7-5 to Edmonton's Heather Nedohin in the championship draw, picking up $6,000, after a magnificent 5-0 run to reach the finale at the World Curling Tour stop.

Calgary's Maria Bushell was also on a roll in Lloyd, winning three straight before losing to Nedohin in a 5-3 'A' final. Bushell and her rink finished 4-3, while fellow Calgarians Krista Crowther and Tanilla Doyle went 2-3 at the 32-team WCT event.

Calgary's Shannon Kleibrink was runner-up at the $50,000 Sun Life Classic in Brantford, Ont.

EXTRA ENDS

Calgary's Terry Meek was in the zone at the $60,000 Point Optical Curling Classic in Saskatoon, but he fell short of the $15,000 first-place prize when he lost a 5-4 quarterfinal Monday to Saskatoon's Jason Ackerman. Meek went 5-1, including a 'B' final win over Saskatchewan's Rod Bryden, to reach the playoff round in the 32-team WCT event. The spiel also saw Calgarians Brent Bawel, Steve Petryk and Mike Jantzen finish with respective 1-3, 1-3 and 0-3 records.

LAST ROCK

The junior men's and women's southern playdowns begin Friday in Red Deer. Women's entries include Airdrie's Kayla Ramstad and Calgarians Nadine Chyz, Keely Brown, Tawni Proctor and Megan Chambers. Among the men are Sundre's Craig Bourgonje, Okotoks' Kyler Kleibrink and Calgarians Harrison Boss, Michael Roy, Kevin Yablonski, Shane Parcels, Lucas Scott and Scott Smith.
